One of the fundamental differences between the VFW Auxiliary and other veterans service organizations is our eligibility requirements. In order for an individual to be considered for membership, his/her eligible veteran:
The eligible veteran and the prospective VFW Auxiliary member must have a familial relationship within two generations; step, half and adopted family members meet the "two generations" standard set forth by the IRS. However, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews of the eligible veteran do not meet the "two generations" standard and are therefore not permitted to join the VFW Auxiliary.
Proof of the veteran's service to establish eligibility for membership rest with the applicant. The local VFW Auxiliary's Investigating Committee is responsible for assurring the eligibility of every person accepted for membership.
Information on a veteran's service record can be obtained by contacting the National Archives and Records Administration at:
Pick up an application at the VFW Canteen. The applications can be found at the side bar in the metal rack. If none are available leave your name, address, phone and a note stating what you need in the VFW Auxiliary box next to the women's restroom and one will be mailed to you. Fill out the application, note that all the highlighted information is completed.
Drop the completed application, a check for your fees made out to VFW Auxiliary 4353 and a copy of the DD214 of your eligible veteran. The DD214 will be destroyed unless you send a self-address stamped envelope with a request to return the information.
After your application is completed it will be checked by the investigating committee then voted on by the membership at the next meeting. Meetings are held the second Monday of the month.
You can get an application online:
